Is blogging dead?

Is it time to bury your blog?
Is it time to dump your blog? Steve Rubel, Senior Vice President of Edelman Digital, thinks so. In an interview Rubel did on Social Media Examiner (an awesome site worthing checking out), he explains why blogging is dead. He feels site visitors don’t have time to read and would rather watch a video instead. And he stressed that video is mandatory, not optional.
During the interview, Rubel shares valuable info about how to measure social media metrics, why you need to be on all social networks where your clients are hanging out, and more.
After watching his interview, I’m not convinced that it’s time to bury blogging forever, but I agree with him about video. It’s easier to watch something (gotta love fast-forward) than to take the time to read it. Unfortunately it can take longer to tape a video than to write a blog post.

Interesting, considering I just returned from hearing Lon Safko, author of The Social Media Bible, expound upon the strategic importance of the blog.
Certainly the role of the blog has evolved in the past five years but it is not obsolete. I believe it is important to provide information in multiple media. Some people prefer to read, some prefer to watch a video. And as a result I’ve created TWO blogs, one that is mostly text and a second that is mostly video.
While video is usually more compelling, keep in mind that studies show the human brain can absorb information via reading at a rate ten times faster than watching/listening to a video.
You bring up some good points. I like your idea of two blogs.
I agree blogging is somewhat dead and videos are what people expect – Go videos..now got to make each video even more interesting
Making videos isn’t as easy as it looks…at least making quality videos. That’s next on my to-do list!
